At a meeting Tuesday night, the Port of Astoria commissioners approved a revised lease with Westerlund Log Handlers, allowing the Bremerton, Wash.-based company to use Pier 3 and, in turn, allowing the Port to lease out unused space to other operations.

Westerlund has been running its log export operation off of Pier 1, but would move the majority of this to Pier 3 if that space became available. The revised lease … also states that if there are periods of “curtailed activity” by Westerlund, the port can store or ship third-party cargo from Pier 3 so long as these activities don’t create a “significant negative economic or competitive impact to (Westerlund)” and compensation is included.

The proposed amendment agreement will now go back to the state.
