According to the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW), a deadline has been set for 12:00 p.m. on January 24. If a new agreement is not reached by that time, the workers could go on strike or Canadian National (CN) may decide to lock workers out. This is despite CN’s denial that the prospect of a strike has even been discussed.

The CAW represents the workers who do all of CN Rail’s mechanical repair and maintenance workers across the country as well as some of its trucking and clerical workers. … If CN were to stop operating, it would certainly clog up the flow of goods throughout Canada, and would impact operations at Prince Rupert’s Fairview Terminal. The Prince Rupert Port Authority is hopeful that it won’t come to that.
