According to the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, Friday’s grant will reduce shippers’ costs by $45.3 million over 20 years.

The Coos Bay Rail Link received $13.5 million Friday to upgrade rails, ties and ballast on its tracks from Coos Bay nearly to Eugene.

The tracks, formerly the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad, now are owned by the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, thanks to a years-long effort to preserve the line.
