The three finalists for the Port of Bellingham executive director position met the community on Sunday, Oct. 4. About 60 people attended a reception at Bellingham Cruise Terminal.
Mark Beaty, 55, said the port can balance economic interests with the environmental values of the community as it focuses on bringing new jobs to Whatcom County.
Gregory Borossay, 48, touted the potential of the port’s now-lightly-used shipping terminal. … He would seek out opportunities to export Pacific Northwest commodities to Chinese buyers. But he also observed that the shipping berth needs both deeper dredging and improved rail service.
Charles Sheldon, 63, also sees potential in Bellingham’s shipping terminal. He thinks Bellingham could lure some cruise ships and factory trawlers away from overcrowded facilities in Seattle.
