Voters in Long Beach will decide Nov. 2 on four local propositions of little interest outside the city with one exception: Measure D.
Ask anyone connected with ocean carriers or terminal operations. … They are concerned that city politicians are making a run on the port’s income, which is big by anyone’s standards, and are trying to weaken the very independence of the port.
The worry of shippers and terminal operators is that [if Measure D passes], the port might get treated like a slush fund to compensate for overspending by elected officials at City Hall.
