Private berth operators in Bangladesh have demanded that army personnel be deployed at Chittagong Port to ensure smooth berth operation.
Because of protest by a section of dock workers, any of the six newly appointed berth operators could not start handling containers at general cargo berths.
Earlier on October 6, workers under the banner of Dock Bandar Sramik Karmachari Federation threatened to start a fresh movement to press home their demands including recruitment of the workers selected by the port authorities before giving work orders to the private berth operators.
