Log exports at the Port of Longview are rolling along this month, but wind-energy imports will likely be still for the year, port officials said Tuesday.

The port expects 64 million tons of log exports this month, up nearly 60 percent from the 40.6 million tons exported in the September of 2009, said Lori Nelson of the port’s marketing department in a report to commissioners.

Over the first seven months of the year, log exports at the port were up from 2009 by nearly 300 percent. Demand for U.S. logs for commercial construction in China and Korea has fueled the increase, said Ken O’Hollaren, Port of Longview executive director.
