Hong Kong’s Modern Terminals has welcomed the first call of Oakland-based Matson Navigation Company’s Kaimoku containership on its China Long Beach Express 2 (CLX2) Service, the line’s first, and unusual venture into south China for a protected US Jones Act carrier.

Said Matson vice president Dave Hoppes: “Matson will demonstrate its ability to deliver dependable vessel arrivals and service efficiencies that are measured in hours, not days.” Matson’s CLX2 rotation, deploying five ships in the 3,500-TEU range will be deployed on the following rotation: Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Yantian, Shanghai, Long Beach and back to Hong Kong.
