The port will give Skyline a $35,000 monthly break in lease payments if Skyline generates more ship calls. Skyline is a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal, the largest steel manufacturer in the world.

The 35-acre site, once a part of the Long-Bell Lumber Co., has been a thorn in the port’s side over the past two years. Port officials sold the land in 2005 to Tacoma-based Simpson Timber, who wanted to build a sawmill. When Simpson’s plans fell through and the company tried to sell the land to another company, the port sued to force Simpson to sell the land back in 2009. But it had to pay $1 million more than it had sold it for.
