New technology allows fresh bananas to be shipped all the way from the Philippines to Europe. This opens the door for more far-away fruit exporters.
Maersk Line said its new technology has successfully carried out a trial shipment of fresh bananas to Rotterdam in the Netherlands from Davao using reefer containers.
Maersk said they used containers with a new controlled atmosphere (CA) system developed by Maersk’s StarCare reefer equipment [that’s] specially designed to carry bananas on routes with transit times of over 30 days.
