Former Los Angeles city Commissioner Leland Wong failed to convince an appellate court that his 14 felony convictions should be overturned, according to an opinion issued Wednesday.
One of several crimes that Wong committed in the complicated corruption case involved his taking $100,000 from Evergreen Marine to help the Chinese conglomerate negotiate a rent deal at the Port of Los Angeles.
Wong worked on the inside for Evergreen, played city officials against each other and personally profited. In addition, he did not disclose the $5,000 a month Evergreen deposited into his Hong Kong account.
He was also convicted for stealing from his former employer, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, by using company credit cards to buy entertainment and sports tickets, then re-selling them. He also charged the company for massages.
