Colombia’s Sociedad Portuaria del Norte and US-based SSA Marine plans to build a new container terminal in Colombian city Barranquilla, local paper El Heraldo reported.
The project requires a US$40mn investment, of which 51% is to be covered by Sociedad Portuaria del Norte and the remaining 49% by SSA Marine, which will also be responsible for operating the container dock.
SSA Marine is owned by the firms Goldman Sachs (51%) and John Hemingway (49%). The company has also carried out investments in Panama’s Manzanillo port, which handles 70% of the cargo transferred to Barranquilla.
