Port of Astoria seeks federal funding to improve pier 3

Port of Astoria, OR

Federal funding is sought to help improve pier three at the Port of Astoria. That’s the long term intended site of Westerlund Log Handlers export business, which would balance its presence at pier three with Englund Marine and a relocated boat yard. Before deciding on pier three, the commission wrestles which project to choose for a TIGER grant project, be it rail or pier three. TIGER stands for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery. The total pot is $140-million with a minimum grant request of one-million dollars. Commissioner Jack Bland says he sees a need for $6.2-million at pier three; executive director Jack Crider tells KAST that includes purchase by the port of land at pier three currently owned by the Division of State Lands.
