Port of Los Angeles officials’ concerns about where to put dredged sediment if they approve a new $50 million shipyard may have just become a non-issue, thanks to a request from the Port of Long Beach for dredged material it can use to create land for the Long Beach Middle Harbor Project.
Gambol Industries has welcomed the Port of Long Beach’s call for dredged material — contaminated or clean — as the company continues to garner support for the creation of what would be the Port of Los Angeles’ only major shipyard on the site of the former Southwest Marine Shipyard.
Port officials said the project will delay the much-anticipated channel-deepening project by three years. Gambol contends it will fit into the two-year schedule and not throw the project off track.
