Michael Lighty, public policy director for the California Nurses Association, has been sworn in as the newest commissioner at the Port of Oakland. Lighty takes the place of Anthony Batarse Jr., an auto salesman, who served on the commission for eight years. Lighty, a Stanford University graduate, coordinates the national political and legislative work for the 150,000-member union of registered nurses.
