“Overall west coast container traffic declined by 15 per cent. Fairview Terminal is the only container port on the west coast that has shown growth in 2009,” said Prince Rupert Port Authority’s President and CEO. “We’re the only blooming flower in an otherwise wilting garden, so that has drawn a lot of attention to Prince Rupert.” Along with Fairview Terminal, 2009 was a year of growth for Prince Rupert Grain. It saw a 35.1 per cent increase in traffic to sit a 5,080,834 tonnes, the highest throughput at the terminal since 1994. In total, traffic through the Prince Rupert Port Authority increased by 15 per cent from 2008 and totaled 12,173,672 tonnes.
