The Port of Tacoma Commission has begun taking steps toward finding a new executive director by hosting several public meetings on the topic. So far, officials held two meetings to discuss criteria for hiring a recruiting firm to aid in their director search. The port plans to have a search firm hired by early March. Commissioners agreed that they would like a recruiting firm that has experience in the shipping industry, but not all agreed about the region of the country these firms should come from. Commissioner Connie Bacon suggested keeping the candidate pool within the state. Commissioner Dick Marzano disagreed, explaining that their search should start more broadly. “I think we can find good quality firms from across the West Coast,” Marzano said.
