A cruise ship passes under the Golden Gate Bridge

Cruise ship visits are valuable for San Francisco’s economy because they bring cash-spending tourists and provide employment opportunities for San Francisco’s maritime professionals. Disney Cruise Line recently announced that it would visit San Francisco in 2011 for the first time and Crystal Cruises agreed to make 10 homeport calls to San Francisco in 2011. Oceania, which has never before visited San Francisco, booked five visits by the cruise ships Marina and Regatta, according to a port spokesperson. … The Port is working on a $40 million project to build a new cruise terminal at Pier 27, which is currently used for limousine and other vehicle parking.
