Maersk Line is offering 280 British and Danish officers redundancy packages as it seeks to reduce costs and “adjust employee levels to match demand”. Explaining the Danish job cuts, it added: “In Maersk Line’s experience, Asian officers, for example, are less expensive than a seafarer from Denmark with the same competencies. … Maersk Line has to look at a wide range of options to cut costs, including the salary levels of its crews.
