New export figures show Northern California may be recovering from the recession faster than Southern California. Shipping from Southern California ports and Los Angeles International Airport was down sharply from August 2008. By contrast, more exports moved from the Port of Oakland and San Francisco’s airport than during the same month last year. … Statewide, California’s exports remained below prior-year levels for the 10th consecutive month, according to figures released Friday by the U.S. Commerce Department and analyzed by the UC Center. Statewide exports were up nearly 3 percent from July but down 22 percent from August 2008.
