From two recent reports:
Port of Long Beach cargo numbers leveled off in June
The Press Telegram reports that “After months of double-digit jumps, cargo movement at the Port of Long Beach leveled off in June when compared to the same time a year ago, according to the statistics released Monday. Overall container volumes at the nation’s second-busiest seaport rose 1.8 percent to about 565,476 units, with imports up 3.5 percent to 290,448 units and exports up by 0.1 percent to 133,800 units last month when compared to June 2012. Port officials in Long Beach said the numbers are a reflection of what continues to be a slow national economic recovery.”
Port of Los Angeles Container Volumes Drop 7.2% in June
Maritime Executive reports that “The Port of Los Angeles has released its June 2013 cargo volumes. June overall volumes decreased 7.2 percent compared to June 2012. Exports decreased 15 percent, from 174,418 TEUs in June 2012 to 148,203 TEUs in June 2013.
