The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay will expedite repairs to its rail line between Eugene and the North Spit to accommodate a ‘wood-products-related” customer that asked to have the line open by June 20.
Port CEO Jeff Bishop said that on April 6, ‘a substantial business with commercial interests in the Coos Bay Area” asked the port to resume rail service by June 20 so that the business could ‘take advantage of an economic opportunity for itself and for the Coos Bay area.”
Although the port hadn’t yet received permission to disclose the customer’s name, Bishop said it planned to ship 100 to 200 carloads of freight per month and eventually raise the amount to 500 per month.
